Deaths due to measles, polio: Federal ombudsman presents report to Prime Minister
Acting Federal Ombudsman, Salman Farooqi called on Prime Minister former Justice Mir Hazar Khan Khoso at Prime Minister House. Salman Farooqi presented a 400-page report prepared by the Federal Ombudsman on the recent deaths among children due to measles and polio in the country. The report has been presented amid concerns expressed by the Prime Minister over increasing deaths among children in the country, especially in Punjab due to recent outbreak of measles.
Salman Farooqi briefed the Premier on the salient features and findings of the report and its recommendations to control the situation. During the meeting a proposal for holding a national or regional conference to discuss ways to control the recent outbreak in the country was also considered.
The Prime Minister directed Ministry of Inter Provincial Co-ordination (IPC) to pass the report over to the provincial governments for taking remedial measures. The Prime Minister expressed his concern over growing cases of measles among children in the country and expressed the confidence that the provincial governments will take urgent remedial measures to check this outbreak.
