The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought daily diary (Roznamcha) of April 18 from Secretariat Police Station Islamabad to ascertain the veracity of Inspector general (IG) Police's claim that he had nothing to do with former President and army chief Pervez Musharraf's escape from the premises of Islamabad High Court.
After holding Islamabad Police Chief Bani Amin Khan responsible for his failure to nab Musharraf from the IHC subsequent to rejection of his bail extension application, the High Court had sought a report from federal Interior Secretary. A three-judge bench of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja was hearing an appeal filed by IGP Bani Amin Khan who had challenged the IHC verdict through criminal attorney Abdul Aziz Chaudhry. During the course of hearing, Aziz apprised the bench that his client was issued a notice by the IHC with a direction to explain why an appropriate number of police officials were not deployed to handle the situation on April 18 at the High Court.
Aziz informed the court that the IGP was asked to file a report on actions taken against the delinquent police officials who failed to apprehend the accused (Musharraf) after rejection of his bail plea. He maintained that the IHC also issued directives to his client to apprise the court about the steps taken to effect Musharraf's arrest. "Despite the fact that all the queries raised by the IHC were satisfactorily explained, the IHC passed a harsh order to direct federal Interior Secretary to proceed against the IGP," Aziz argued. Seeking record of the daily diary from the concerned police station, the bench adjourned the hearing of matter till April 25 (today).
