Some political parties, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) among them, were being pushed against the wall, Deputy Convenor of the party Dr Farooq Sattar. Addressing media persons, Dr Farooq Sattar said that it was impossible to hold large rallies because of an ongoing wave of terrorism and the party had no other option but to close down its offices.
He pointed out that at least six other political parties had been allowed to freely run their election campaigns. He wondered if people at the helm of affairs really wanted to hold free and fair elections. Dr Sattar vowed that MQM would take part in the elections, as foreign observers had already arrived in Pakistan. He warned of a "great loss" if terrorists' hideout were not eliminated. The MQM leader said that MQM always agreed with electoral reforms suggested by Dr Tahirul Qadri.
