The Supreme Court on Thursday exempted the former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani from making personal appearance before the court in a multibillion rupee Hajj corruption case. A three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing of Hajj corruption case.
The court asked the former premier to hire the services of a lawyer for the case as there were many legal points which would be discussed with his lawyer before determining whether or not former Prime Minister Gilani had immunity in the Hajj corruption case. During the course of proceedings, Gilani appeared in person before the court and apprised the court about the immunity that he, according to him, enjoyed in the case. The court adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
