Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zong, Fan Yun Jun said that the company is waiting for the government's move to participate in auction of Third Generation (3G) technology and but their preparations in this regard were already in place. In an exclusive talk with selected group of journalists here at his office, Zong, Fan Yun Jun said that the government should give tax incentives to the telecom sector for attracting further investment.
"We have invested on the required infrastructure to participate in auction for 3G technology and now waiting for the government's move in this regard," the CEO added. CEO Zong also shared future investment plans and company's strategy to expand the consumer-base with focus on tax concessions for the cellular companies for encouraging new investment in the country. He also highlighted importance of promoting broadband, mobile internet and other latest technology to increase market share.
He said that the law and order situation and power outages were the major issues, adding that Pakistan possessed huge potential and they would have to convince the government to provide a level playing field to boost telecom sector in a major way. Responding to another query, regarding non issuance of LDI licence, he said that a committee had approved issuing LDI license to them as this committee was formed on the directives of the then Prime Minister. "But enforcement on this issue is still pending before the authorities," he added.
He said that they were conducting homework to support upcoming general elections by coming up with different instruments in the country. He said that they had so far invested $2 billion in Pakistan and promised to continue investing in the country for introducing future technology in this part of the world.
On the issue of grey trafficking in telecom sector, he said that strict enforcement was the only solution and the regulator would have to come to ensure its effective enforcement. He said that the penetration rate of telecom sector stood at 70 percent but there was a lot of room for promoting broadband, mobile internet and other latest technology to enhance market share in this country. On the issue of 3G technologies, he said that it was hot topic in Pakistan as 3G, 4G and broadband technology needed to be encouraged.
