District administration Peshawar has decided taking stern action against profiteering and encroachment mafias in the city and appointed an Assistant Commissioner (AC) as focal person in this regard. The decision has been taken on directives of the provincial government, which has directed the administration for initiating stern action against both profiteering and encroachment mafias in the city.
In this connection, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mohammad Javed Marwat appointed AC, Peshawar Asad Haroon as focal person and directed him for initiating emergency based steps for the elimination of profiteering and encroachment mafias from the city. AC, Asad Haroon convened a meeting of all Additional Assistant Commissioners (AACs) and Ration Controller, Qazi Faridullah attended while consumers were represented by Malik Ikram and Hafiz-ur-Rehman Kiyani. After a five hours long meeting the participants unanimously decided the installation of special signboards in all bazaars for giving information regarding profiteers and encroachments and in case of complaint insure immediate action. Besides, the signboards special complaint boxes would also be installed for inviting written public complaints in this regard. After the confirmation of the complaint the AAC concerned will take action.
The meeting decided minimum fine of Rs 5000 and 15-day imprisonment for all involvement in artificial price-hike and encroachments. Tuesday would be observed as meat holiday while complete ban would be observed on the selling of meat till 5pm of Wednesday and violators will face minimum fine of Rs 10,000 and imprisonment of one month while the confiscated meat will be supplied to charity organisations.
