The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court on Friday issued notices for April 29 to respondents - the federal government, Wapda, Lesco and others - on an application seeking action on excessive loadshedding. The Chief Justice observed that the court would ensure provision of basic facilities to all citizens without any discrimination. He directed Wapda to produce experts specifying reasons in detail for power cuts.
Chairman of the Judicial Activism Panel Azhar Siddique moved the application in his already pending petition against power outages. The applicant submitted that on April 19, the LHC had ordered Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) to reduce the incidence of power cuts to eight hours in a day but so far this order had not been complied and load shedding persisted for 16-18 hours. He said that Wapda had also failed to curb power theft because of which the general public suffered. He requested the court to direct Wapda to produce relevant record relating to power cuts and its agreements for power generation.
