Zafar Abbas Lack Inspector General (IG) National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) said that road safety in the region is alarming, but with the efforts of motorway police, the accident rate has been reduced by more than 70 percent. This he stated while addressing the participants of Refresher Courses concluded here on Friday.
"Training can play a vital role in personality developments and regular training, refresher courses are essential to keep the standards of professionalism," IG maintained. He urged officers to adopt new concepts in training so that the level of professionalism could be enhanced. The situation of the road safety in the region is alarming, but with the efforts of Motorway Police, the level of road safety has been enhanced and the accident rate has been dropped by more than 70 percent, but still there was lot of work to do in that sector.
He said the main focus of the department was to make all efforts to facilitate road users and provide timely and effective help to commuters in distress. He appreciated motorway police for maintaining the highs standards of professionalism in NH&MP, and said although the NH&MP received the status of excellence, "we had to make lot of efforts to maintain this standard."
He emphasised upon the officers of NH&MP to work more hard to keep the name of NH&MP. He further said that courtesy and tolerance be showed while dealing the road users and no complaint of misbehaviour would be tolerated. He said the rule of law must be observed in all respects and no favouritism was given to any one.
DIG (Training) of NH&MP, Muhammad Zubair Hashmi said that on the directives of IG NH&MP, special refresher courses had been designed for the officers so that they would not only refresh their minds to remember early training, but to equip themselves with modern techniques.
He said those officers had been refreshed on personality development, arrest procedure, Police negotiation skills, Police Public Relations, safety of road users, First Aid, speed checking system, weapon handling and training of hydraulic cutter. Different personalities were invited to deliver these lectures. The course was titled as Road Safety Skills and Technique Course. In the end, Zafar Abbas Lak distributed certificates among the participants of the course.
