The Election Commission of Pakistan has declared Computerised National Identity Card mandatory for casting vote in the general elections. A spokesman of the EC said no person would be allowed to cast vote in the polling station without having original computerised national identity card and no other document including the copy of the CNIC‚ passport and driving license would be acceptable for casting vote.
To a question‚ the spokesman said as per election laws‚ anyone having expired Computerised National Identity Cards can cast his/her vote. He said the main purpose of the CNIC is the identification of the voter‚ which it would serve even after expiry.
