Secretary Health Punjab Arif Nadeem said due to the joint efforts of various government departments, effective vector surveillance and larvaeciding and close cooperation of the people, dengue situation is under control in Punjab. Surveillance and monitoring of graveyards, junkyards, tyre shops and roofs of government buildings should be continued to check the growth of dengue larvae, Arif Nadeem said while presiding over dengue response committee meeting here on Friday.
Besides Vice Chancellor KEMU Professor Dr Faisal Masood, Commissioner Lahore, Secretaries, Additional Secretaries and senior officers of Health Department, Information and Culture, Higher Education, Schools Education, Environment, Local Government, Co-operative, Labour, Agriculture, Finance, Forestry and Fisheries and Punjab Information Technology Board attended the meeting. The officers of different departments apprised the meeting of the steps being taken by their departments to control dengue disease.
On this occasion, Additional Director General Health Vector Borne Disease Dr Jaffar Ilyas informed that at present confirmed dengue patients are not being reported whereas the number of suspected dengue patients is also very few. He observed that during surveillance it is revealed that the chance of dengue larvae in open places a very low due to the increasing temperature. He said that in this season, dengue mosquito preferred to live inside houses in cool places.
Chief Entomologist Dr Wasim Akram said that the present phase of dengue is to be over within a few days but as soon as the rainy season starts, the breeding of dengue larvae could be again surfaced. Secretary Health directed that all concerned departments should remain vigilant and implementation on SOPs of dengue control should also be continued. He also appealed to the inmates to keep their houses and roofs clean and water may not be accumulated in open places to check the dengue breeding. He also directed that awareness campaign against dengue should also be continued.
Moreover, Secretary Health Punjab has directed all the public sector hospitals to provide cool drinking water for the patients and their attendants in summer season. He also directed that seating arrangements for visitors should also be made under shades. A spokesman of Health Department informed that under the directions of Secretary Health necessary instructions have been conveyed to the medical superintendents of government hospitals to make water coolers functional in their respective hospitals.
