Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) and Department of Political Science organised a seminar on "Muslim World: Relations with China and West" at seminar hall on Friday. Danish Ambassador Ole E Moesby was the chief guest while Danish Scholar Seven Burmester threw light on the top. Director CSAS & Chairperson Department of Political Science Professor Dr Umbreen Javed, faculty members and M Phil/PhD scholars attended the seminar.
Seven Burmester threw light on economic development and culture and said culture consisted of language, history and values. Comparing English, Chinese and Arabic languages, he said it was easy to learn English language and even Arabic language which changed according to speaking style but the case of Chinese language was different that it stressed upon meanings rather than sound.
He said that so far as the history of Europe was concerned it preceded smoothly while the history of China observed many ups and downs, adding the Muslims history, in spite of its glorious eras, had also entangled in complications. He empathised on two things particularly of Pakistan; education and population control, and said Pakistan had not controlled its population successfully as China and the West had done. He pointed to the growing extremism and terrorism in Pakistan which needed to be addressed.
