The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan on Friday directed concerned authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements in the city in connection with general elections and ordered cancellation of leaves of Islamabad police. "The IGP issued these directives at meeting to review the law and order situation and to devise effective strategy regarding security for general elections in Islamabad," a police spokesman said.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) headquarters Khalid Khan Khatak, Additional Inspector General (AIG) operation Sultan Azam Temuri, AIG Special Branch Waqar Chohan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yaseen Farooq, SSP Traffic Dr Moeen Masood, SSP Security Mir Vais Niaz, SSP headquarter Sajjad Kayani and other senior officials of police.
He said that the city police chief also asked police officials to ensure special security arrangements in capital on the eve of various political gatherings, public meetings in connection with election campaign and also on the day of polling when people will cast their vote at various polling stations. The IGP also directed Sub Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to monitor security arrangements themselves in their respective areas. Superintendents of Police will also visit their respective areas in different timings to check security measures, he added.
He ordered to ensure arrest of proclaimed offenders and other criminals involved in crimes of heinous nature who are still at large. He also directed police officials for strict monitoring of those ever faced imprisonment in car lifting or involvement in other criminal activities. The IGP also directed to accelerate the investigation process of various crime cases including murder, dacoities, kidnapping for ransom, car lifting and resolve the pending cases on priority.
