Zulfiqar Ali Chohan Chairman Local Bodies, Municipal Affairs HDA and Sindh Building Control Authority of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a press statement expressed his concern over a call of strike by the employees of Water and Sanitation Department due to non-payment of salaries to them, as the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad does not have funds.
He said tons of garbage is lying on city roads and streets, this may cause spread of epidemic diseases. He further expressed that due to absence of sanitary workers Qasimabad, Latifabad and City areas are suffering badly from sewerage water which is now spreading on main roads and streets for example sewerage water is spreading near session court, Hyder Chowk, Kohinoor Square, Airport Road, Main Latifabad Road resulting in breakage and damage to main roads and general public is facing problems in transportation as well as of sanitation.
Whereas, people of the Hyderabad City are facing lack of drinking water in certain areas like Paretabad and Phuleli where people are getting smelling water which is unhealthy with awful smell. People of these areas even cannot bath with such water 50 percent of the people of this area are purchasing water from local filter plants. This has become a routine practice in most of the city areas.
Zulfiqar further said that business community pays infrastructure development tax along with other taxes on import of goods. Chohan said that during the year 2011-2012 the Hyderabad Tax Collectorate collected Rs 21.5 billion in connection with Income Tax, Sales Tax and Federal Excise duty.
He appealed to the Governor of Sindh and caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh that the water and sanitation authority of Hyderabad may be released Rs 250.0 million and Municipal Administration may be provided Rs 150.00 million as a bailout package. He also appealed to the Commissioner Hyderabad to do some thing for providing relief to the general public of Hyderabad and play his key role in getting funds for Wasa and Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad.
