The body of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was secretly buried outside Massachusetts, police said, as lawmakers in Washington Thursday questioned law enforcement officials and terrorism experts about the handling of the April 15 attack.
Concerns raised by Russian intelligence officials about Tamerlan Tsarnaev may not have been properly shared with local law enforcement officials ahead of the terrorist attack, Congressman Michael McCaul alleged. Three people were killed and more than 250 injured in dual bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The brothers allegedly behind the bombing later led police on a manhunt that left the elder brother and a police officer dead. The younger brother is in police custody, having suffered injuries during his flight.
"Since the bombing, questions have been raised about whether the dots were connected before and after the attack," McCaul said, pointing to communication from Russian officials with the FBI before the elder of the two alleged bombers travelled to Chechnya. He noted, however, that when Tsarnaev returned home to the US, an alert from the Department of Homeland Security was not shared with other agencies. Questioning Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, McCaul asked whether local police were aware of the FBI's investigation of Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
