Supporters of Pakistan Tahrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamat-e-Islami on Sunday gathered at Teen Talwar in protest against, what they said, massive rigging in the general elections in Karachi. The protesters, who were carrying PTI flags and party's electoral symbol, bat, chanted full throated slogans against the rigging in Karachi.
They blamed that MQM had hijacked the mandate of Karachi at gun point. "We will not accept the result of unfair election," they announced, adding that PTI was winning in Karachi especially in NA-250 but rigging and biased behaviour of Presiding officers at polling stations exposed the tall claims of ECP of holding free and fair elections.
Addressing the protestors, PTI's central leader, Dr Arif Alvi, said, "PTI not only rejects the elections in NA-250 but the entire city."
He demanded of the ECP to conduct re-polling in NA-250 and its two provincial assemblies' seats PS-112 and PS-113 in the presence of army.
He further said that the 'thapa mafia' was active in his constituency and the delay in start of polling on May 11 was a planned conspiracy to keep away PTI voters from using their legitimate right.
On the occasion, Jamaat-e-Islami leader and candidate from PS-113, Eng Abdul Aziz, said "Elections process in Karachi was hijacked by the MQM." He said that the JI boycotted election due to massive rigging.
He said that ECP failed to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the city. He demanded re-elections in Karachi.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehnati announced to observe 'Black Day' on May 11 (today) against the massive rigging and unfair elections.
In a statement, Mehanti said Karachiites has fulfilled their responsibility by taking part in election process but unfortunately real mandate was hijacked by the criminals. He was of the view that ECP confessed that they have failed to conduct free and fair election in Karachi so re-elections should be held in city. He said that CEC had ignored demands of deployment of army on polling booths.
