The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) is organising Infectious Diseases Symposium on May 29, 2013 at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre and will have this telecasted live. The symposium celebrates the dramatic progress in areas such as HIV and Hepatitis- C treatment but also highlights the ever changing challenges of managing infections in a global community, said the organisers.
Practical management dilemmas in patients with bacterial infections where first line treatment fails and the difficulties caring for a growing population of immunosuppressed oncology patients will also be addressed.
Speakers from Edinburgh will share important skills in managing an outbreak and lessons learned from their experience with Legionnaires' in 2012.
An update on immunisation will provide a UK perspective on protecting populations, with a final session reminding of the many remaining challenges as people and bugs travel further and at greater speed.
Intending participants have been informed that there is no fee for attendance at the SKMCH venue but pre-registration is required especially for outside participants, comprising physicians and physicians in training and those who have diversified into medical or nursing roles within Infectious Diseases, Microbiology or Public Health.
