As many as 34 independents who emerged victorious from different constituencies of the Punjab Assembly in May 11 general elections have announced their decision to join Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N). The PML-N had formed a committee consisting of Khawaja Ahmed Hassan, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Rana Sanaullah and Khawaja Saad Rafique. The independents MPAs Tuesday met PML-N leader Khawaja Hassan in Raiwind and announced their decision of joining the PML-N. Some of the independents also met Shahbaz Sharif and reposed their confidence in the PML-N leadership.
Shahbaz told reporters that law would take its due course against plunderers of national wealth. "We would recover the plundered money from looters and spend the same on public welfare schemes. To a question, he said some people are levelling baseless allegations of rigging in the general elections. However, he admitted reports of rigging in Karachi but said as per EU Observers election report, May 11 elections were 90 percent transparent.
When asked as to whether he would become Punjab Chief Minister or Federal Minister for Water and Power, he said the PML-N President would decide in this regard. However, he said whether or not he becomes Minister for Water and Power he would make all out efforts to resolve electricity crisis.
