Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi presided over a meeting to review the pace of progress on land record computerization project at Chief Minister's Secretariat here on Thursday. Senior Member Board of Revenue, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Secretary Planning & Development, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board and concerned officers were present.
Project Director Irfan Elahi gave a briefing on the project of land record management and information system. Addressing the meeting, Najam Sethi said that computerisation of land record is an important project of public interest and there is need for further accelerating the pace of work on this project. He directed that all hurdles in the way of the project should be removed for its expeditious implementation. He said that modern technology can help provide better facilities to the masses. The Chief Minister said that land record computerisation project will eliminate corruption and rid the people of the obsolete system and Patwari culture. He said that land record computerisation shall facilitate the people in acquiring their property deeds as well as simplify the process of transfer of land. Najam Sethi expressed satisfaction over the pace of the project.
Project Director Irfan Elahi informed the meeting that land record computerisation project was started in 18 districts of the province but now its scope has been extended to 36 districts. He said that 38 service centers are functioning in the province while 97 service centers will start providing services to the people from December 2013. He said the staffs of service centers have been recruited on merit. He said contracts of data entry have been given in all districts. He said data entry process has been completed in eight districts while 75 percent work has been completed in five districts whereas the process is continuing expeditiously in the remaining districts. Third-party evaluation of the project has also been conducted.
