A three-member delegation from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and discussed areas of collaboration in the livestock sector.
The delegation comprising Senior Animal Health Attaché David Ashford, Senior Agriculture Attaché Vasquez Orestes and Agricultural Specialist Asmat Raza held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and faculty members and mulled over various prospective projects for US funding.
The VC briefed the delegation on the research, training and extension programmes of the UVAS. He said that the university is working closely with the industry for the development of livestock sector. He said that the university faculty members are actively involved in research on current issues/problems and training of manpower according to modern-day needs.
Faculty members including Professor Dr Mansoor-ud-Din Ahmad, Dr Muhammad Nasir, Dr Imran Rashid, Dr Memoona Chaudhry and Muhammad Afzal presented an overview of their research and development projects. The delegates took keen interest in these research projects and desired collaboration in the areas of food safety, animal nutrition and epidemiology of various animal diseases.
Senior Animal Health Attache David Ashford lauded the role of the UVAS in training of manpower and development of livestock sector. He said that the UVAS is a role model for producing skilled veterinarians. Both the sides agreed to have follow-up meetings to finalise the projects to be executed jointly by the UVAS and USDA.
