Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is observing "Youm-e-Tashakar" (Thanksgiving Day) on Friday (today) to celebrate the PML-N's victory in May 11 general elections. The PML-N Head Nawaz Sharif made an appeal to the PML-N workers and the nation to observe the Day in a befitting manner.
It may be noted that the PML-N made a triumphant comeback, securing 124 seats of National Assembly and 212 in Punjab Assembly thus paving the way for Nawaz Sharif to become Prime Minister for the third time and Shahbaz Sharif to return as Chief Minister Punjab. To achieve the required majority of 137, the PML-N has secured support from independents and out of 28 independents over 20 MNAs-elect including Legharis from D.G. Khan have formally joined the PML-N.
The outgoing PPP-led coalition, which was formed as a result of 2008 polls, faced continued threats of defections when it confronted unpopular decisions. Nawaz Sharif said victory to the PML-N in May 11 polls is due to blessing of Allah Almighty and love of people of the country. He urged people to offer special prayers after juma prayers for country's progress, prosperity and maintenance of law and order in the country.
