The Karachi Port handled 67,613 tonnes of cargo comprising 42,134 tonnes of import cargo and 25,479 tonnes of export cargo including 4,099 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 42,134 tonnes comprised 35,655 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,455 tonnes of general cargo; 2,974 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,050 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 25,479 tonnes comprised 17,419 tonnes of containerised cargo; 661 tonnes of general cargo; 1,428 tonnes of bulk cargo and 5,971 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,099 containers comprising 2,524 containers import and 1,575 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 796 of 20's and 859 of 40's loaded while 10 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 462 of 20's and 291 of 40's loaded containers while 129 of 20's and 201 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are four ships with one container ship, two oil tankers and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are four vessels with one container ship, two oil tankers and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths. There is one ship namely BBC Oregon with general cargo ship sailed out to sea on Saturday. There are seven vessels viz Shiba, STX Patraikos, Kota Arif, Water Breeze, Calida, Dong A Peneus and Stove Transport with three container ships, one chemicals carrier, two oil tankers and one steel ship respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
The total import cargo of 34,600 tonnes includes 13,000 tonnes of palm oil and 21,600 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 27,225 tonnes includes 1,945 tonnes of rice and 25,280 tonnes of containerised cargo. There is one ship namely MT SC Xiamen with edible oil sailed out to sea on Saturday morning.
A total number of four vessels viz CV Sargasso Sea, MT SC Xiamen, MV Bella-L and MV KPS-1 Alican Bey are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, palm oil, rice and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours. No ships are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are no vessels are expected to take berths on Saturday. There is one ship namely MT Akaki with furnace oil due to arrive on Saturday as per arrival schedule.
