The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) reiterating the call for march towards Eidgah, occupied Srinagar, on May 21 (Tuesday) has appealed the people to make it successful. According to KMS, the APHC spokesman condemned the occupation authorities for placing the Hurriyet Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest and preventing him from addressing a function in connection with the Martyrdom Week.
He said that the authorities had put Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention after his return from attending a function at Islamia Higher Secondary School at Rajouri Kadal in occupied Srinagar on Saturday. "Hurriyet Chairman was scheduled to address another function in Khanyar in connection with Martyrdom Week being observed by the Awami Action Committee. But he was informed by police that he is under house arrest," the spokesman said.
Earlier, the Indian police and Central Reserve Police Force sealed a park adjacent to Martyrs' Graveyard at Khanyar where Mirwaiz was scheduled to address a seminar. The police had also arrested several Hurriyet activists from the area.
"The vehicles of AAC were seized while its activists were harassed. The posters and banners of the party at several places in the city were removed," the APHC spokesman said.
He pointed out that the puppet administration had once again resorted to undemocratic and anti-people policies to silence the genuine voices of Kashmir. "By putting Mirwaiz under house arrest, the administration stopped Kashmiris from paying tributes to the martyrs of the liberation movement. It is highly regrettable," he said, adding that such dictatorial measures would never weaken the spirit of the pro-freedom leadership.
