LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Nawaz Sharif Monday said PML-N has evolved a comprehensive programme for the well-being of people and economic revival was our top priority. Talking to foreign media correspondents at his Raiwind residence, Nawaz said PML-N is determined to make Pakistan 'Asian tiger' during its tenure.
He added that PML-N govt would establish friendly ties with India and other countries, while he would invite Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Islamabad for the oath-taking ceremony of the Prime Minister. He said that relations with India would be improved by restoring them from the point where these were disconnected in 1997. He said PML-N government would establish more cordial ties with international community including Saudi Arabia.
When asked about the US drone attacks in tribal areas, he said the PML-N government would try to convince America to stop drones. He said the PML-N government will help US forces withdraw from Afghanistan. "We will hold talks with the United States to convince them to stop drone attacks," he added.
The PML-N leader said PTI has emerged as majority party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa hence, the PTI government must be there. However, he said PTI should respect the mandate of people and accept the results of the general elections. The PML-N government would respect the mandate given to parties by the people from the areas where they have won, he added.
Sharing his views about the law and order situation in Karachi and Quetta, Nawaz said it will be tackled with the help of other parties. "We will do whatever we could to improve law and order in the country," he said. Referring to the attack on PML-N leader Sanaullah Zehri in Balochistan, Nawaz said it was not fair to say that terrorism had not affected PML-N. He added that the PML-N government would devise a national policy to tackle the menace of terrorism. "We will contact every party for the purpose of forming our policy on terrorism," he said.
He further said the PML-N government in its first 100 days would come out with policies on all major issues confronting Pakistan, such as terrorism, the economy etc. He further said that elections were held for the first time without the army's umbrella and added that he will work with them in future to resolve the problems faced by the country. Nawaz said PPP had to face defeat as it failed to take any step for the resolution of problems of the countrymen. "Had the PPP-led coalition government paid a little bit attention to economic problems and law and order situation, the present situation in the country would have been different altogether, he said.
