The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore have discussed possibilities of launching e-courses for the capacity building of farmers. A two-member UNIDO delegation led by its International Consultant, Nellke Postema visited the UVAS, held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and discussed areas of collaboration especially in livestock, fisheries and food safety.
Director Institute of Continuing Education and Extension Professor Dr Nematullah and Head of Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, Dr Muhammad Nasir were also present. Professor Pasha briefed the delegation on the training programmes already being offered by the university with the collaboration of various organisations. He said that launch of e-courses would be an innovative initiative in the livestock sector and the UVAS is very keen to begin such courses for the benefit of the farming community.
He said that the UVAS had highly skilled and qualified professionals for training of manpower in livestock, fisheries, poultry, wildlife and related sectors. Lauding the UVAS diploma and need-based short courses, Nellke Postema said that UNIDO desired collaboration with the UVAS for initiating joint e-courses in the areas of fisheries, animal and human nutrition and food safety. Later the delegation held separate meetings with the IT experts of the UVAS and discussed the equipment, softwares and expertise required for the launch of e-courses.
