Despite having achieved a clear majority in Balochistan Provincial Assembly, the three-party alliance consisting of PML-N, PkMAP and National Party have not been able to come at a consensus for the coveted post of Chief Minister. After entering into alliance, the three parties agreed to let the PML-N lead the provincial government.
It was expected that Provincial President of PML-N Sanaullah Zehri would be nominated as Chief Minister but due to reservations over his candidature by the nationalist parties, uncertainty persists over, who would be the next Chief Minister.
On the other hand, Sanaullah Zehri for his part is not ready to agree over Changhez Marri, son of nationalist leader Khair Bakhsh Marri as Chief Minister due to tribal rivalries. It is a very difficult situation for the PML-N leadership, as its top two leaders Sanaullah Zehri and Nawabzada Changhez Khan Marri both are aspiring for the Chief Ministership.
Both the leaders have been summoned to Lahore. Zahri says his son, brother and nephew were killed for supporting Pakistan while Changhez Khan Marri says he raised Pakistan's slogan when his father and brother had taken up arms against the state and were still up with arms. He says he can hold talks with those on the mountains. According to reports, PkMAP Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai has proposed to the PML-N leadership to nominate National Party leader Dr Malik as Chief Minister.
Provincial President of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Usman Kakar said that either the Chief Minister should be from his party or Dr Malik be nominated as he is the most suitable candidate for the post as his party has got the mandate of Baluch populated areas.
On the other hand, Balochistan National Party (Mengal) is showing no interest in the formation of government and expressing serious reservations over the whole electoral process. Party senior leader Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini says their mandate has been snatched.
He said they were winning on four national and eight provincial assembly seats but this was not allowed to happen. He said results of four Quetta constituencies from where the BNP (Mengal) was leading were held up for four days and when results were announced, his party's candidates were declared defeated by a few dozens of votes.
