At least seven persons were killed in different incidents of violence in the city on Thursday, police and rescue sources said. Violence in Lyari area continued unabated for sixth consecutive day, after a leader of Katchi Rabita Committee was gunned down during a protest demonstration on the Mauripur Road against ongoing violence in the area.
Sources said that as local people took out a rally against violence in the area and blocked the Mauripur Road, law enforcement agencies tried to disperse the protesters, unknown armed men opened fire upon personnel of security agencies. When security forces returned fire, a bullet hit the KRC's Sector In-charge named Ibrahim Katchi, 30, instantly killing him. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
SHO of Kalri police station Haji Sanullah told Business Recodrer that protesters had directly fired upon police, Rangers and FC personnel. "The KRC leader was trapped in heavy fire, resulting in he received fatal injuries and died," SHO said.
Fierce firing continued in the Mauripur area for three hours, resulting in a massive gridlocks in the city's major traffic arteries. A man named Hassan, 33, was shot dead near Fawara Chowk in the Garden area in the limits of Garden Police Station. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Syed Faheem Shah, 30, was shot and killed near the Parking Plaza in Saddar in the limits of Brigade police station. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Hospital. Two men, whose identities could not be ascertained till the filing of this report, were found dead near the Steel Town Link Road in the limits of Steel Town Police Station. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Both bodies bore marks of torture, police officials said.
Another mutilated body was also found from Mewa Shah Graveyard in the Lyari area in the limits of Pak Colony. The body was later shifted to Edhi Sohrab Goth Mortuary. Meanwhile, another mutilated body was found near the Super Highway. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained. According to officials, the body was so decomposed that it appeared that the man was killed at least 15 days ago.
