Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Dr Riaz Memon has directed the management of Sindh Irrigation Development Authority (Sida) to visit all the river areas and to remove private bunds if any in the belt of river Sindh with immediate effect.
He said that in case of any trouble or inconvenience they may report him so that same may be removed with government force. He said that previous experience of flood has revealed that such type of private bunds and have caused devastation not for other people but government infrastructure as well and one cannot be allowed to play with the lives and properties of other people for the sake of his/her personal interest. This, he directed, while presiding over a meeting called by him for adopting preventive measures to meet any eventuality of flood during upcoming monsoon at Shahbaz Hall, Shahbaz Building Hyderabad on Thursday.
Addressing the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner directed the officers concerned to prepare their contingency plan in advance and to ensure inventory of all equipments machinery to be required for coping with flood situation. He asked the management of Sida and Irrigation Department to identify vulnerable points of their areas and also put the Abkalani material available in advance. The Divisional Commissioner said that in flood situation, the threat of water born diseases always increased and directed the health management to adopt preventive measure in advance and also arrange health facilities available at fixed and arrange mobile medical services as well. He asked the Deputy Commissioners to remain in contact with local landlords and also to form Flood Protective Committees to avoid disaster or at least minimise the losses. He also directed them to establish flood protective cell within their offices and also to collect data of the machinery available with stakeholders and arrange other if needed. The Deputy Commissioners of all Districts fallen in Hyderabad Division, Tai Ram G.M.O. Sida, Zohoor Ahmed Shaikh S.E. HESCO, Abdul Rehman S.E. Irrigation, Ghulam Mohammad DG HDA, Saleemuddin MD WASA and other officers attended the meeting.
