Cash bids for hard red winter wheat held steady in the southern US Plains on Thursday while track bids firmed at the Texas Gulf due to a lack of grain movement from the country, dealers said. Harvest of HRW wheat was under way in Texas but still a few weeks away in Kansas and Oklahoma.
Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City rose 6 cents for wheat with 12.8 percent protein but premiums for other grades were unchanged. USDA reported export sales of US wheat in the latest week at 239,000 tonnes for 2012/13 and 713,600 tonnes for 2013/14, above trade expectations. Of the total, sales of hard red winter wheat were 180,100 tonnes for 2012/13 and 200,900 tonnes for 2013/14.
