Pakistan People's Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah Saturday said that his party would extend all out support to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in the best national interest and to pull the country out of the prevailing crisis.
"The PML-N government will have to face serious challenges during its tenure and the PPP would cooperate with it matters of national interest as we want continuation of democratic process, for which we will support Nawaz Sharif," he told a news conference.
He said that the PPP would also support PML-N government in the larger interest of the country if any need for constitutional amendment arises, the PPP will extend support to the government. Answering a question about PPP government's performance during the last five years, Shah said that the PPP government empowered provinces through the 18th Constitutional amendment.
He said that there are many questions marks on the fairness of the elections but PPP welcomes the new set-up because it wants the democratic process to continue. The PPP leader said that ups and downs in politics are part of democracy. He said PPP is a democratic party and wants democracy to flourish. He said that democracy will strengthen if next government completes its five-year term.
He said the country needs peace and his party will extend co-operation in fighting terrorism. Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the President would summon National Assembly session after receiving summary from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. However, the source in the Ministry said that the independent candidates will join political parties before Monday and it is expected that the session might be summoned on May 28.
