A 14-member trade delegation of Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) under the leadership of Jawed Ali Ghori, Chairman Reap has leave for South Africa for one week trade visit. Jawed Tar Muhammad, Muhammad Nadeem Sadiq, Teka Mal, Waqas Asghar, Syed Azhar Hussain Hashmi, Kashif Ali Shaikh, Dayo Mal, Waleed Ahmed, Tariq Muhammad Kas and Aadil Paracha are also a part of delegation.
Jawed Ali Ghori, Chairman Reap said that the main reason of this visit is to cop the ongoing decline of Pakistani rice and South Africa is a very important market for Pakistani rice, as the annual demand of south Africa is approx. 0.6 million tons. Currently South Africa has been importing rice from India, Vietnam, and Thailand.
In 2009 Pakistan has exported 146,000 metric tons of Pakistani rice which worth $66 million, whereas in 2010 rice export has been decreased up to only 66,000 metric ton and in current fiscal year (July 2012 to 23rd May 2013) the rice export to South Africa has been shrink up to only 4,500 metric tons and the main reason of this decline is the increasing production cost due to which we are not able to compete in International markets. Therefore, Reap has decided to send a trade delegation to South Africa on a war footing basis.
This delegation will visit Johannesburg and Durban during the week and will have meetings with the officials of local chambers of Commerce as well as the leading rice importers based in both cities. Ghori is hopeful that during this visit we will have fruitful meetings with rice importers and rectify and resolve the hurdles in this regard, so that Pakistan again take a good share in South African markets.-PR
