Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is said to be in agreement to pick Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as the new interior minister. Insiders privy to the development told Business Recorder that there was a consensus in this regard among party leaders who are finalising portfolios for the next federal cabinet. They said that the announcement will be made soon.
However, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told reporters at the Parliament House that the decision regarding federal cabinet and portfolios would be taken on Wednesday, adding that no decision had yet been taken. He said that the next cabinet would be smaller than determined by the Constitution, which allows 49 members, including state ministers. He said that the law and Constitution would be followed in spirit, adding that PML-N cabinet will be "small, transparent and work-oriented".
Answering a question about the fate of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, the PML-N leader said that the former general capitulated to the US on receiving a single phone call and dragged the country into a war which resulted in nothing but destruction.
Chaudhry Nisar, who accused the US of sabotaging efforts for peace in the country by continuing drone strikes in tribal areas a day ago, said that the PML-N government would adopt a clear policy on the issue of drone strikes. He declared that only a patriotic and sincere leadership could pull the country out of prevailing crisis. About the domestic energy crisis, he said that a strategy was being devised to resolve the problem of loadshedding on a priority basis.
