There is no let up in measles spread, as a nine-month-old child Mehwish from Allama Iqbal Town area died here in Children Hospital on Saturday. Over 100 children have so far lost their lives due to measles since the disease hit the province of Punjab after playing havoc in Sindh. As per report, over 80 fresh cases of measles have been reported during the last 24 hours.
Doctors said the disease is spreading despite efforts by the health authorities. They added that measles-affected children are being provided with the best possible treatment facilities. The figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO) show the number of measles cases in Pakistan has increased from 4,000 in 2011 to 14,000 in 2012. It may be noted that around 2.6 million children have received vaccines in Pakistan, and in June another 11 million are due to arrive.
