Incorporated in 1988 by Yunus Brothers Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Pakistan, Gadoon Textile Mills' aim was to provide employment to the local natives of the Swabi District that used to rely on cultivation of poppy and opium on their lands for achieving their livelihood. Thus, not limited to a profit-making venture, GTML has a socially motivated reason as its essence.
GTML holds the distinction of being the second largest textile mill in the world to introduce compact core spun yarn---first being Franzoni Textile of Italy. However, in Pakistan, it is the largest spinning unit with an approximate number of 245,000 spindles, and more than 200,000 spindles under one roof.

In today's hyper-competitive market, innovation is key to the survival and success of any business.
Quality:
Today, GTML is one of Pakistan's most progressive, growth-oriented organisation in the textile sector. Quality and commitment to continuous improvement are essential ingredients for the ongoing success of a competitive unit. Quality is understanding the customer's expectations and supplying products that meet their expectations without compromise.
The Company constantly endeavours to maintain its position as a market leader to continuously improve efficiency and competitive strength. GTML lives up to its vision through providing its customers the highest value for their money. Everyone from top management to floor workers is driven by this vision and engaged in applying resources to continual product improvement.
The Company strives to achieve operating efficiencies at costs which help to grow our business by selectively increasing capacities and introducing new products that meet customer needs. It understands what customer needs and delivers on its commitments and demonstrates adaptability and agility in response to change. Stringent quality standards are the raison detre of the Company. No wonder the Company is able to compete and sell at home, especially in the presence of premier textile mills in the country; its yarn is very well received in foreign markets in USA, Europe, Far East, Africa, China, Hong Kong, India and Bangladesh, etc.
Human Resource:
Investment in human development is more productive than investment in physical assets.
The Company provides employment to thousands of peoples. Northern Plant, being located in a remote area of the country with scarce job opportunities, is contributing significantly to the economic development of Swabi district by providing employment to so many people directly and indirectly. Recently GTML has expended its operation in the Southern region by setting up an state of the art modern manufacturing facility on Super Highway Karachi as a strategic decision to future strengthen its penetration in this region and to support our ever growing export.
Employees are motivated to avoid waste in all forms---the waste of manpower, the waste of raw materials, the waste of space, the waste of machine time. The underlying objective is to keep Company's costs lower than those of the competitors. At GTML, efforts are directed to achieve commitment, integrity, fairness and teamwork into every aspect of business.
Realising that no industry can thrive without contented labour force, GTML strives to provide its employees a congenial environment, so that they can work to their full potential.
Financial Health:
GTML enjoys enviable financial health compared with similar textile mills. Hardships arising from world-wide recession and upward trend in operating cost due to local constraints dealt a severe blow to profitability of textile sector.
The situation improved from 2009-10 onwards with higher revenue attributable to robust yarn market and inventory gain accruing due to progressive rise in lint cotton prices in line with world-wide trend. This provided an opportunity to efficient units to regain their financial health and GTML is again financially one up.
GTML's financial strategy is very well focused and the retention of profits in the business for capital expenditure is a hallmark of this strategy. The Company's contribution to the country has been recognised from time to time and it has received gold medals/trophies from time to time.
The Karachi Stock Exchange has selected the Company as one of the Top 25 Companies for the year 2010, thereby acknowledging its performance in the relevant year.
Investments in ICI Pakistan Business Acquisition
As a part of strategy to diversify its business, the Company in consortium with other Group entities has acquired 75.81% shareholding in ICI Pakistan Limited with Omicron B.V., a 100% owned subsidiary of AkzoNobel N.V. Netherland.
Corporate Social Responsibility:
GTML has taken things further through its major corporate social responsibilities initiatives for the benefit of the weak and the needy.
