Pakistan remained in the grip of severe heat wave on Sunday as very hot and dry weather continued across the country for past several days. The Meteorological department recorded maximum temperature as follows: Dadu 50°C, N.P.Thal, Bhakkar 49°C, Nokkundi 47°C, Bannu, D I Khan, D G Khan, Sibbi Sargodha, Jacobabad, Jhang, Larkana 46°C. Islamabad 42°C , Lahore 45°C , Karachi 38°, Peshawar 42°, Quetta 39°, Murree 30°, Muzaffarabad 43° and Gilgit 42°C.
In its weather forecast for Monday, Met Office said that mainly very hot and dry weather with chances of dust raising winds at some places of plain areas is expected over most parts of the country. However, dust thunderstorm/ rain with gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places of Makran division.
It further said that mainly very hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during next 48 hours. However, dust-storm with chances of rain-thunderstorm expected at a few places of south eastern Sindh and Kashmir during evening/night. Meanwhile due to rise in temperature in the northern areas, the running water in the four live rivers continues to swell. The river Indus is flowing with 1,85,000 cusecs water at , Tarbela , River Jhelum with 60,000 cusecs upstream Mangla and river Kabul over 80,000 cusecs. There was little relief in the load-shedding on Sunday as the gap between demand and supply remained 4300MW. The electricity demand went up to 16,500MW whereas generation remained stagnant at 12,200MW.
