The federal government has set the target to enhance the installed capacity of Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) by 2026 MW in 2013-14. Pepco's actual installed capacity was 20,443 MW in 2011-12 which was revised to 21,014 MW in 2012-13. The incumbent government has planned to enhance it to 23,040 MW in 2013-14. Growth rate in electricity has been calculated at 9.64 percent.
According to Annual Plan 2013-14, maximum demand of electricity in 2011-12 was 20058 MW which will increase to 21,490 MW in 2013-14 indicating a growth of 4.75 percent. Actual energy generation target was 117,163 GWh in 2011-12 which was revised to 123,513 GWh in 2012-13. The target for 2013-14 has been fixed at 129,699 GWh showing a growth of 4.96 percent.
Annual energy sale was 89,916 GWh in 2011-12 and 95,119 GWh in 2012-13 whereas it will be 100,364 GWh in 2013-14 which implies growth in energy sale is 5.51 percent. Transmission and distribution losses were 22 percent in 2011-12 and 23 percent in 2012-13 while the target for 2013-14 has been set at 22.60 percent. Electricity consumers in Pepco were 21.05 million in 2011-12, and 21.79 million in 2012-13. The target for 2013-14 has been set at 22.57 million.
According to the documents, 0.74 million consumers were added in 2011-12, 0.78 million in 2012-13 and the target for 2013-14 is 0.78 million. Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has no plan to add existing installed capacity. The company's installed capacity was 2,381 MW in 2011-12 which is still the same. The company's losses were 29.70 percent in 2011-12, 27.50 percent 2012-13 whereas estimated losses in 2013-14 are 26.60 percent.
