A breach in canal inundated low lying populated areas besides destroying crops on hundreds of acres of land here on Monday. According to irrigation department sources, a 50 feet breach emerged in Narli Canal of Ghokti due to which the gushing water spread in the area, entered houses and ruined cultivated lands.
People were forced to move to safer place due to four to five feet of water in residential areas. The affected population also held protest demonstration against the irrigation department. They blamed that the department had not paid any heed towards cleansing of the canal which resulted in the incident. Meanwhile, SDO Irrigation Department Wahid Buksh Chachar said repair work on the damaged portion of the canal was underway and it would be revamped soon.
