Dow University of Health Sciences, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA-Sindh) and Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Monday mourned the killing of their co-professionals and other officials in line of their duty. They also condemned killing of women students during series of terrorist related incidents in Quetta on Saturday. Senior faculty members of DUHS, members of PMA-Sindh, YDA, Sindh
Para Medical Staff Association (SPMSA), Karachi Nurses Association and medical students who attended in large numbers the protest meeting held at Dow Medical College also denounced the attack on Quaid-e-Azam's Ziarat Residency.
They said destruction of a national heritage of immense importance, explosion in Women University bus and consequent killing of over a dozen students, suicide attack and a gun-battle in the Bolan Medical Complex was not only extremely painful but a cause of serious concern for the entire nation.
Professor Junaid Ashraf, Principal of Dow Medical College, Professor M. Umer Farooq, Pro-Vice Chancellor of DUHS, Dr Samrina Hashmi (PMA), Dr Ghulam Mujtaba Memon (YDA), Dr Amjad Siraj Memon (DUHS), Dr Ikhlaq Ahmed Khan, Ms Nasreen Gil, Dr Munib Ghilzai (JPMC) and Dr Amini Abdul Qayyum (YDA) addressed the protest meeting.
They took strong exception to the attack and subsequent gun battle witnessed on Bolan Medical College Hospital premises. "Even in the wartime, the hospitals were not attacked but now it is happening," they said. It is all so abhorrent that there are no words to condemn, they said. Participants of the meeting demanded for full proof security plan for DUHS and Civil Hospital, Karachi.
They also demanded security provision and protection of doctors, medical professional and healthcare providers. It is the responsibility of hospitals' administrations to provide security to the doctors both physically and legally, said the speakers. On the occasion PMA representatives announced that they would hold protest meetings in all the medical universities of Karachi in order to condemn the brutal killing of doctors and para-medical staff.
