The KP government has earmarked Rs 23.78 billion for law and order for next fiscal year, showing an increase of 1.82 percent against the previous estimated budget in current financial period. Of the out allocation of Rs 23781.398 million for Police, Rs 20.16 billion has been allocated for salaries, while Rs 3.764 billion would be spent on non-salary/operational expenses for the law enforcement agencies in the province, according to budget document.
The budget papers further said that budgetary allocation had been increased from Rs 4.52 billion to Rs 23.35 during last six years due to constant waves of militancy and insurgency in the province. In the next fiscal year, more than 35 projects would be initiated, for which Rs 23.78 billion allocated in the budget.
The projects were included; maintain and repair of police stations, checkposts and lanes, along with establishment of PTC in district Hangu, offices of branch police, and repair and redesigning in all prisons of the province. While speaking at the floor of house, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Siraju Haq said the province had been badly affected due to terrorism and militancy as a result expenditure on Law Enforcing Agencies increased with each passing day.
In the past years several measures have been taken to empower KP police both in term of training and in term of weaponry support. He said allocated amount would be spent on construction of new police station, purchase of weapons, purchase of mobile vehicles, latest equipments, bullet proof jackets armoured personal career and other related goods for police department.
