National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) has won architectural and engineering services for the USAID Funded Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP) - Milestone Monitoring Services for the construction of schools in Sindh through an open competition.
According to the details, the 2010 floods affected approximately 5,000 schools in Sindh, out of which approximately 2,500 schools were completely destroyed. This natural catastrophe hindered the education of thousands of children in Sindh and other parts of Pakistan.
According to the spokesperson of the Nespak in order to improve access to schools and quality of education in flood-affected districts and restore public confidence in the public education system, USAID offered its support to the Government of Sindh for the construction of new facilities to replace damaged schools in seven priority districts in the northern area of Sindh under the USAID funded Sindh Basic Education Program.
These districts included Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, Kamber Shahdadkot, Dadu, and Khairpur besides selected towns of Karachi like Gadap, Lyari, Orangi, Kemari and Bin Qasim.
USAID will provide financial support for the construction of an estimated 90 to 140 new schools. Nespak's services, as lead partner with its associates (Associates in Development and TECHRED), consists of extending architectural and engineering services required for monitoring the construction activities under Components I and II of SBEP comprising review of tender documents, review of cost estimates; periodic inspection of construction of schools; quality assurance during construction; and suggest improvements in construction.
