Governor Gilgit-Balitistan Pir Karam Ali Shah on Sunday said foreign elements may have been involved in foreign tourists' killing in peaceful Gilgit region.
Shah, in a statement, vowed to take all possible measures for the safety of tourists in Gilgit-Balitistan region which is famous for its natural beauty. "Unknown people entered a hotel where foreign tourists were staying last night and opened fire," DIG Ali Sher said. "They killed nine foreign tourists and their Pakistani guide before fleeing."
The foreigners belonged to China, Russian, Ukraine and other countries. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. It was the first time foreign tourists had been attacked in the area.
