The country has been in the grip of paralysing sultry and very hot weather for past five days taking its toll on the health of the people, reducing economic, social and cultural activities and confining the citizens in-doors amid crippling electricity load shedding and water shortages.
Hospital sources said that cases of gastroenteritis, chest congestion, asthma eye infections are dehydration, fatigue, heat stroke were on the rise. Children and senior citizens are the worst affected. Doctors have advised them not to come out unnecessarily and remain under the shade or air conditioned rooms.
Weather remained very hot and dry in most parts of the country on Sunday. Maximum temperature was recorded at Dalbandin at 47°C, Kohat 46°C, Bhakkar, Risalpur, Nokundi 45°C, Bannu, M.B.Din, N.P.Thal, Bahawalnagr, Mianwali 44°C.
Meteorological department says that these humid and hot conditions would persist till regular monsoon rains start in the country. In its synoptic situation report it said a trough of westerly wave was moving across Eastern parts of Iran. Seasonal low lies over North Balochistan. A monsoon low has developed over North Bay of Bengal.
Met Office forecast mainly hot and dry weather for Monday in most parts of the country. However, isolated dust thunderstorm /rain is likely to occur over Kalat, Karachi, Zhob, Sargodha, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Hazara divisions and Kashmir. It further said that mainly very hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country during next 48 hours.
