The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet which is scheduled to meet on Thursday (today) will approve Rs 2 billion Ramazan package, as Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has already made the announcement in his budget speech, sources in the Finance Ministry told Business Recorder. The prices of ghee/edible oil, flour, basin, pulses, small gram, white gram, dates, Sella rice and broken rice will be brought down by 10 percent.
"The government is reducing prices of 13 essential items from 10-20 percent in Ramazan," the sources added. According to sources, Utility Stores Corporation (USC) will also slash prices of 1,500 items up to 15 percent in Ramazan.
The launching of Ramazan relief package through expanded network of USC will ensure the provision of much needed relief to low income people at their doorsteps in far-flung areas. The effective date of the relief package is proposed to be July 1, 2013, as Ramazan is likely to commence on July 9 or 10, 2013. Sources said the Ministry of Industries has also sought approval of Rs 10 million for advertisement campaign both in electronic and print media.
