The Lahore High Court, here on Wednesday issued notice to Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) in a petition of former MPA Shumaila Rana challenging proceedings against her on charge of possessing fake degree. The court linked the proceedings against the petitioner with final decision of the petition. Representing the petitioner, Rana Asadullah Khan stated that the ECP had in 2011 initiated proceedings against his client on charges of fake degree.
The ECP in its order on April 5, 2013 declared the petitioner disqualified to contest the election and referred the matter to district and sessions judge for legal proceedings. Rana Asadullah prayed to the court to set aside the order of the ECP and proceedings pending before the sessions' court.
