Planning Commission's Member Energy Shahid Sattar has resigned after feeling 'uncomfortable' with the new government, well-informed sources told Business Recorder. Sattar who was very close to former Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Dr Nadeem ul Haq, had requested the government to relieve him effective July 1, 2013 and June 28 was his last day in office, sources added.
When contacted, Shahid Sattar confirmed that he is no more Member Energy, Planning Commission effective from June 28, adding that he himself had requested the government to relieve him. Sattar who played a key role in identifying different loopholes in the power sector including over-billing by the distribution companies (Discos), first joined the Ministry of Water and Power as adviser at the time when Raja Pervez Ashraf was the minister for water and power. However, later he was appointed as Member Energy Planning Commission.
Sattar has over 25 years of experience working at senior levels in the energy sector. He qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant from the U.K. in 1981 and has spent his career in the energy sector specialising in energy policy and economics as well as managing energy sector companies. He recently launched his report on inter-circular debt prepared in collaboration with USAID.
