Condemning arrests of workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and raids on their houses by law-enforcement agencies, MQM's Co-ordination Committee sought immediate release of its workers, besides calling for an end to the oppression being committed on them.
In a statement issued on Saturday, members of the Co-ordination Committee said that it was shocking to note that law enforcement agencies had done nothing when dozens of MQM's workers, office-bearers and sympathisers were being killed over the past month by terrorists and criminal elements, adding that they had not acted even when MPA Sajid Qureshi and his son were brutally murdered. They said that law enforcement agencies, instead of apprehending killers of MQM workers, mounting unjust raids to arrest the party's workers.
The Committee pointed out that that in case of non-availability of MQM workers at their houses, personnel of law-enforcement agencies were arresting their relatives and torturing them in custody. Listing recent arrests made by security agencies, members of the Committee said that two workers had been detained on June 27, seven party workers were apprehended in raids conducted in Lyari, Liaquatabad, Landhi and Lines Area on June 28. Three other MQM workers, they said, had been arrested by police and law-enforcement agencies between Friday and Saturday night. Condemning the ongoing raids, the Committee called for an end to atrocities being committed on the party's workers and their relatives.-PR
