With a view to engage with religious leaders who endorsed the campaign and take feedback on the sexual and reproductive health and the associated rights (SRHR) curriculum development, NGO-Hayat-Lifeline Campaign held a provincial seminar here in Dar-ul-Aloom Jamia Naeemia on Saturday.
Prominent guest speakers included Tariq Pasha, Secretary, Religious Affairs, Punjab, Dr Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Head of Jamia Naeemia, Lahore and Mufti Muhammad Hashim. CEO Omer Aftab, present at the event, discussed what the campaign has done to spread SRHR knowledge among adolescents in an Islamic context and incorporate a curriculum in schools nationwide. Project Manager Anwar-ul-Tabassum gave a presentation on the objectives of the campaign.
During the seminar, key findings of Hayat research studies were discussed from the Learning Need and Assessment (LNA) and Situation Analysis studies. Participants said that educating youth on SRHR issues is an increasing need of the time and that SRHR topics should be incorporated in schools on district, provincial and Federal level in the school curriculum.
Hayat-Lifeline Campaign raises awareness on SRHR issues through advocacy campaigning. The campaign aims at political change at Federal and provincial levels for implementation of its curriculum in school by taking into account the cultural and religious sensitivities that surround the SRHR issues. Hayat project has already gained the endorsement of religious scholars for this purpose in the light of the Quran and Sunnah.
