Fugitive US whistleblower Edward Snowden applied for asylum in Russia, the Interfax news agency reported Monday, citing the consular department of the Russian Foreign Ministry at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport. The application was filed Sunday night by Sarah Harrison, a representative of WikiLeaks who has been accompanying Snowden on his trip, said on-duty consul Kim Shevchenko, who forwarded the application to the Foreign Ministry by courier.
