European Union Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark called on Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here on Wednesday and discussed with him wide range of issues aimed at further strengthening economic relations between Pakistan and the European Union.
The Finance Minister appreciated the interest being shown by the European Union for grant of GSP plus to Pakistan which will enhance trade volume between Pakistan and European Union. During the meeting, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark said the European Union was committed to closer co-operation and was keen to work with the new government in Pakistan especially in areas of rural development, education, human resource management, national resource management, governance and trade.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing projects supported by the European Union and also explored the possibility of further co-operation especially in the energy sector projects like Neelam-Jhelam and Khayal Khawar. Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan envisaged an important role of the European Union as it embarked upon a comprehensive plan for economic development in the country in view of European Union being single largest partner of Pakistan accounting for 20 percent of its total exports and 16 percent of its imports.-PR
