Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Punjab observed black day on Friday to mark the dismissal of its first government in a military coup 36 years ago. On 5th July 1977, Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the PPP founder, was overthrown by the then army chief General Muhammad Zia-ul Haq. Later, he was executed in 1979 after his controversial conviction on murder charges and the military dictator went on to rule until his death in a plane crash in 1988.
The PPP Punjab leadership said this day would be remembered as black day in the political history of Pakistan. It further added that the PPP would continue to fight against all anti-democratic forces in the larger interest of the people of Pakistan.
