Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday categorically declared that the newly-appointed chief selector Moin Khan was never convicted or fined for match fixing and said such irresponsible and false allegations hurt the national interest apart from causing demoralisation.
"The PCB is shocked by a news item published in a section of media that claimed Moin Khan, the newly appointed Chief Selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team, was once convicted and fined for match fixing. This is completely baseless and false," said the spokesman of the PCB. He said, "Such irresponsible and false allegations hurt the national interest." He added that Moin Khan had never been convicted for match fixing. This report harms the image of our veteran cricketer and that of the PCB and the country as a whole, he said.
It is unfortunate that such baseless news has appeared at a time when the new management of the PCB is trying with all sincerity to restore the credibility and performance of cricket in Pakistan, the spokesman said.
On the other hand, Chairman National Selection Committee Moin Khan said he was gravely disappointed by the publication of such a baseless report. He said, "The news has been fabricated to defame me as a person and as a cricketer. I am utterly distressed and disappointed at this falsehood being peddled as a news item. My whole career reflects my love for the game and my continued effort to promote it even after my retirement. The publication of such false reports will not do any good to the game." It may be noted that PCB's interim set up Monday appointed Moin Khan as Chairman National Selection Committee without any mention of his tenure.
